Free and Healthy School Lunches – Otago/ Southland Region, Term 2 2020

⁠⁠⁠The purpose of this Advance Notice is to inform suppliers in the Otago/ Southland region of an upcoming tender relating to the Free and Healthy School Lunches Programme. It is important for potential suppliers to subscribe to notices relating to the delivery region of interest to receive updates or information prior to the release of the tender. Supplier briefings, if available, will also be communicated through GETS.

Suppliers can ask questions through the GETS portal. Unless the question contains commercially sensitive information, questions and answers will be made public to all subscribers. (The identity of the questioning supplier will be kept anonymous).

Programme Overview
The Prime Minister has announced that Year 1-8 students in up to 30 schools will be offered a free school lunch from Term 1, 2020 and up to 21,000 students in around 120 schools will eventually benefit from this programme by the beginning of 2021. A decision will be made after the 2 year pilot about whether to continue or extend the programme.

The scope of the free and healthy school lunches programme is limited at this stage. Government wants to trial different delivery models and approaches in a mix of school types and locations to understand what is involved in delivering a government-funded free and healthy school lunch programme.
