Vercoe Terrace to Goolwa WWTP, Pump Main Duplication

⁠⁠⁠7.13.009 - The Coorong Quays development on Hindmarsh Island, South Australia (formerly known as The Marina, Hindmarsh Island) is currently serviced by a privately owned and operated Community Wastewater Management System (CWMS). The system includes collection, treatment and disposal of waste water generated within the Coorong Quays development.

Coorong Quays Pty Ltd (CQ) has recently taken ownership of the development and following considerable negotiation, at the Alexandrina Council meeting held on 20 August 2018, agreement was reached to transfer ownership & management of the Coorong Quays Community Wastewater Management Scheme to Alexandrina Council over a period of time.

To facilitate ultimate waste water flows from Coorong Quays residential development a number of Alexandrina Council wastewater network components require expansion, upgrade and/or new construction.

Project Component 1 - Vercoe Terrace to Goolwa WWTP, Pump Main Duplication

Located within Vercoe Terrace, Glendale Grove and Kessell Rd Goolwa, an existing 225mm diameter pumping main currently services the Goolwa North residential zone via a dedicated Vacuum Sewer Station located upon Byrnes Road. In addition, this 225mm pumping main also services a component of existing Hindmarsh Island properties. The addition of wastewater flows from within the Coorong Quays residential zone will result in this existing pumping main exceeding its design capacity.

As a result, a new dedicated pumping main is required to cater for these Coorong Quays flows. The new pumping main will ‘duplicate’ (albeit with a larger diameter pipe) the existing pumping main and run parallel to its alignment for a total length of 1610m, and ultimately discharge to the Goolwa WWTP.
