Provision of the Shire of Halls Creek Waste Management Plan and Tip Post Closure Management Plan

⁠⁠⁠The Shire of Halls Creek is located in The Kimberley, Western Australia. Our main office and most of our facilities are in the town of Halls Creek, located on the Great Northern Highway (685 km to the west of Broome and 360 km to the south of Kununurra). The Shire has a staff of approximately 50 people and manages and operates waste collection and landfill services. The landfill is located off the Great Northern Highway approximately 4 km south of the town of Halls Creek.

The Halls Creek Waste Management Facility Operational Plan and Post Closure Management Plan were prepared and has been in implementation since 2009. The two documents were established in line with the Kimberley Regional Waste Management Plan 2009. The Regional Waste Management Plan was reviewed after 5 years in 2013 and has since been reviewed after a further 5 years in 2018. The Shire seeks not only to review the waste facility operational plan, but to broaden it to a Waste Plan for the Town of Halls Creek. Furthermore, the Shire seeks a concept plan for the improvement of waste management in rural and remote communities.
