T808/18 - Council is upgrading a parcel of public riverside reserve on the Georges River in Illawong which will include a new picnic area, car park, boating facilities and environmental restoration. Known as Old Ferry Road Reserve, the reserve has 80m of water frontage and is a site of unique heritage significance being the location of a former ferry crossing that operated between Lugarno and Illawong from 1887 to 1974. The site is undeveloped and in very poor condition but after many years of environmental and design investigations, the site is ready for the construction of a public reserve for water-based recreation opportunities.

Council is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced organisation for provision of the development of the riverside reserve, Old Ferry Road Reserve.

The project involves the construction of a new picnic area, car park and boating facilities on the edge of the Georges River. The site also requires extensive environmental remediation and foreshore improvements.
