Tender Description

Whitton is located 626 km south-west of Sydney and 24 km west of Leeton. The town is steeped in history and is the oldest town in the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area. With a population of 496, the township offers excellent facilities including a primary school, general store, post office, park, fire station, bowling club, swimming pool, museum, hotel and churches. There are bus services from Whitton to high schools in Leeton and Griffith. A CountryLink bus service is also available daily from Whitton to Griffith then Wagga (and return) where it connects to train services to Sydney.

There are growing opportunities for employment in the proximity of Whitton, including farming, food and fibre processing and value added manufacturing. The demand for work force for these industries is driving the need for new housing development in the Western Riverina.

Leeton Shire Council has identified an opportunity for a 22 lot subdivision at Lot 1, DP 1053043, Conapaira Street, Whitton. This development has the potential to be a major influence on the enhancement and reinvigoration of Whitton as a residential village.

Council is now ready to test the level of demand for housing in Whitton and is inviting interested parties to complete an expression of interest by Thursday 14 March 2019.

Expressions of interest are welcome from persons who have a genuine interest to purchase or build a new home within two years as well as from housing developers who may be interested to explore house and land packages at the site.

Council will analyse expressions of interest feedback before determining if and how it will proceed.

Persons submitting an expression of interest will personally be contacted with an update about Council’s next steps.

This expression of interest is not intended for persons wishing to land bank. Ideally Council would like to see housing developed for owner occupiers who are invested in the region.

Parties should also note that lodging an EOI does not commit Council to proceed with the development nor does it constitute all or any part of an offer or contract of sale.
