Taronga Western Plains Zoo is currently in the process of developing a new facility for Siamang monkeys, called the Siamang Holding Facility.

The Siamang facility at Taronga Western Plains Zoo does not currently have an area that is conducive to holding Siamang for routine health checks, veterinary procedures or ongoing treatment for aging animals. There is no current facility to isolate an individual overnight for ongoing treatment or for husbandry management requirements.

It is proposed that a holding facility be constructed off the main island at the Siamang site. The location of the facility off the island will enable keepers to easily train, condition and monitor the Siamang on a regular basis.
