Shipboard Provision of Animal Health Equipment and Medications

Background
Management of animal health and welfare throughout sea voyages is a key responsibility of Australian Accredited Veterinarians (AAV) and LiveCorp Accredited Shipboard Stockpersons. Maintenance of animal health and welfare and contingency planning requires specific equipment, restricted and non-restricted animal health medications to be on board the vessel.

The LEP has initiated this project in response to concerns raised by AAVs and senior stockpersons at the LiveCorp AAV workshop in 2016 and the Advanced Stockpersons Masterclass in 2017. These concerns noted that the ASEL v2.3 requirements for minimum veterinary supplies (A4.1.8-A4.1) have not been reviewed or updated for some time and that resources on best practice use of medications and improved treatment recording methods were needed, this project aims to address this need.
