Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable delivery partner for the project: Mechanisms and manipulation of resistance to powdery scab in potato roots (PT17003).
The objective of the services being sought is to improve powdery scab disease control through resistance selection or manipulation of the zoospore host binding sites in potato roots. Specifically, the aims of this project are to:
* Understand the mechanism of the of the zoospore binding process to its potato root host cell
* Characterise potato cultivars for resistance to zoospore binding
* Examine the capability for manipulation of root attachment sites through binding blockers
* Develop and screen variants of important commercial cultivars with altered root attachment capacity
* Analyse these variants for the genetic changes associated with reduced binding that will be useful for rapid screening of new germplasm
