Replacement of Pilot St Sewer Pump Station
Tender ID: 350863
Tender Details
Tender Description
Council has a major sewer pump station called U6-Pilot St in Urunga NSW. This pump station has suffered serious acid attack from hydrogen sulphide gas and in need of serious repair. The pump station is also currently undersized, with a large number of lots yet to come online.
Council is issuing a construct only tender for the construction of a new wet well adjacent to the existing well, which will become the new primary storage and the refurbishment of the existing well as emergency storage. There will be a new valve pit, reflux and stop valves and a new flow meter installed. The pumps will be relocated from within the existing wet well to the new wet well, which will require longer power cables. The main switchboard will need to be replaced as part of this tender and all inputs connected to the existing telemetry. A permanent standby generator is to be installed with automatic start and change over during power failures.
The pump station will need to remain operational during the construction. Maximum down time in dry weather may be as little as 4 hours. ADWF is 7.8 l/s although this flow is not constant as it is reliant on contributing pump stations. PWWF can exceed 60 l/s. A bypass pump with automatic control will need to be installed and a discharge arranged into the existing rising main. There is an existing biofilter with air blower that will need to be connected to the new wet well.
The land where the well is to be constructed is bound by a major fibre optic cable and Telstra line to the East and the water table is very close to the surface with a wet land less than 20m to the North. Dewatering will be an issue. To the West is a large corrugated iron fence. This may be required to be removed and a temporary fence installed while work is in progress. There is a path through the wetland that pedestrians use for access to Pilot St, this will have to be barricaded off and signposted to prevent access to the construction site. Council will arrange a media release to inform the residents.
The existing wet well will need to have the lid removed as the steel is badly corroded. Ideally the lid will be removed and the interior of the well gutted and a precast insert installed with a new floor and pipework to the new well the backfilled and a new lid installed. This work can only be carried out once the new wet well is operational.
A copy of all Councils policies and procedures may be located at www.bellingen.nsw.gov.au and the successful tenderer will be asked to sign of copy of Councils Statement of Business Ethics and must abide by Councils Code of Conduct.
