As part of the SA Energy Plan, it was identified that the State will build a gas-fired power plant to have a government-owned source of emergency electricity generation available in South Australia.
The State-Owned Emergency Power Plant consists of 9 x GE TM2500 aero-derivative units and associated equipment producing a total of 276MW of electricity. It is currently located across two temporary sites. The units will be relocated to a permanent site at the southern end of the Bolivar Waste Water Treatment Plant during 2019. The State will require a contractor or contractors to decommission and relocate the generation assets, construct the new facility at the permanent site, commission the generation assets and operate/maintain the facility.
