The project will assist the Department to identify the potential economic impact of the disability sector in South Australia, aligning with the Departments strategic intent, which is to ‘position South Australia to capitalise on our high growth, high value sectors.’
Business Requirement
* There is a gap in economic data related to the impact of the National Disability Insurance Scheme on the South Australian economy. The current data forecasts the growth in demand for disability support services however it does not model the flow on impacts and multiplier beyond the disability industry. There will be flow-ons to the construction industry (there is estimated to be 1,000 additional people seeking accommodation in South Australia as well as the need to upgrade current housing stock), cleaning services, professional services, food and beverage, retail and wholesale as well as the assistive technology and aids sector.
* This information is required urgently, to ensure that South Australia is able to capitalise on the economic opportunity associated with the NDIS, which has commenced rollout in selected locations in South Australia.
* Deliverables and Outcomes
* Outcome 1: The report will highlight both the direct and flow on economic impact of the disability sectors expansion, by NDIS Region.
* Outcome 2: The report will provide the State Government with the necessary economic modelling to make investment decisions, with the intent of maximizing the economic impact of the NDIS rollout in South Australia
* Deliverable 1: An economic analysis of the contribution made by the disability industry currently and at NDIS full scheme across the 12 NDIS regions and South Australia as a whole.
* Deliverable 2: Deliver a dashboard that allows the extraction of data by region, service type, impact indicator and timeframe impact.
