Asbestos Sewer Vents Replacement Rutherford Telarah and Morpeth

⁠⁠⁠The Principal has fifty nine sewer vents recorded as being constructed of asbestos cement. They were installed in the late 1930s and early 1940s, with the majority of these vents located in the customer's backyards to ventilate boundary trap sewer systems.

In 2014 GHD was engaged to assess the condition of the vents through sampling and visual inspection to determine the friability, material condition and the extent of activity likely to impact on the material.

The assessment found that although all vents except two were in fair condition, they were still classified as high risk due to their specific localities and potential of disturbance (one to three times per year). They were recommended to be encapsulated or sealed to provide protection to reduce the likelihood of disturbance.
