Survey Equipment Baseline Calibration System
Tender ID: 338646
Tender Details
Tender Description
The calibration of an Electronic Distance Measurement (EDM) instrument used in the surveying industry is carried out to ensure that they are measuring distances to the accuracy specified by the manufacturers.
A requirement of the National Measurement Institute and relevant state Survey Acts is that EDM instruments be calibrated annually. Each state body have one (or several) physical ‘EDM Bases’ where a number of very stable concrete pillars have been constructed in a row.
The combinations of distances between these pillars are measured annually using highly accurate equipment which determines the base inter-pillar distances. Surveyors then check that their instruments are measuring accurately against those measurements. They enter/upload the data into a government provided, free software tool that provides a Certificate and detailed report as to the accuracy of the instrument determined by a mathematical model.
The Surveyor General (DPTI) wishes to modernise this calibration software “service” provided to the survey industry. Once completed the responsibility for the service will be offered to the relevant national standards body; the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) for use for all state jurisdictions
