Tender Description

⁠⁠⁠Outcome
By 2021, 50% of growers in the Geraldton port zone use harvest weed seed control measures and are confident that the harvest weed seed control method that they use on their farm is effective and efficient.

Outputs
1. Chaff-lining e-infonote
* Summarise the literature review information from ‘Assessment of some harvest weed seed management options for Kwinana West, Kwinana East and Esperance port zone growers’ (Project number PLN00013-B). This summary to include harvest weed seed management of low biomass crop residues in low rainfall zones; weed seed management using chaff lining; and weed seed loss from various header fronts on a range of crop types and biomass. By June 2018.
* Summarise the case studies gathered from PLN00013-B of growers who are putting chaff-lining into practice and produce a ‘Tools and Tips’ that growers can use on their property. By June 2018.
* Conduct a desktop review of the grazing value of chaff-lines; and what happens to the viability of weed seeds in chaff-lines in the northern wheatbelt. By October 2018.
* Incorporate this into an electronic infonote titled ‘Chaff-lining as a harvest weed seed management tool in the northern wheatbelt of WA: An initiative of the Geraldton port zone RCSN’. First draft to GRDC by November 2018.
* Final version of infonote titled ‘Chaff-lining as a harvest weed seed management tool in the northern wheatbelt of WA: An initiative of the Geraldton port zone RCSN’. Delivered to GRDC by January 31, 2019.

2. Workshops/demonstration days
* Delivery of 4 harvest weed seed management workshops/on-farm demonstration days, including set-up of chaff carts, measuring loss from header fronts, and IWM (of all makes and models). By November 2018.

3. Final Report
* A final report (using the correct final reporting format) is to be submitted to the GRDC Western regional manager by February 28th, 2019.
