The department is developing guidelines about life-of-mine plans and completion criteria which will assist in the implementation of the rehabilitation policy stated in the Better Mine Rehabilitation for Queensland discussion paper.
It is intended that the guidelines will be based on best practice industry standards (if applicable), minimise regulatory burden while supporting efficient regulation, provide certainty to stakeholders, and underpin better performance management and rehabilitation outcomes on mined land.
The guidelines will support the implementation of the new rehabilitation policy by setting clear rehabilitation requirements, unambiguous assessment, monitoring and reporting requirements, rehabilitation milestones, completion criteria and progressive rehabilitation.
Expert and specialist knowledge is needed to research, evaluate and recommend standards and practices for best practice rehabilitation activities that are feasible in Queensland.
The project will deliver two reports about contemporary standards and practices in regard to:
1. Best practice management of mined land, focussing on suitable rehabilitation practices and techniques for mining activities undertaken in Queensland, and
2. Development of best practice completion criteria standards for rehabilitation activities, applicable to the Queensland context.
