Impact of Stigma and Discrimination Related to Problematic Alcohol and Other Drug Use on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities, Families and Individuals

The Queensland Mental Health Commission is seeking the submission of proposals to undertake research into the Impact of Stigma and Discrimination related to problematic alcohol and other drug use on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, families and individuals.

Project Overview
The Project will consider the impact of stigma and discriminaton of people who are experiencing problematic alcohol and other drug use, and also the negative stereotypes that affect the social and emotional wellbeing of all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The project will result in a report to the Commission that will be used to inform and develop activities to
* Reduce racism experienced by Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders
* Improve access to support services and to support recovery for those who are experiencing problematic alcohol and other drug use
* Improve social and emotional wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Queenslanders.

The research is a commitment under Action 6 in Proud and Strong: Queensland's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social and Emotional Wellbeing Action Plan 2016-18.

The indicative budget for the project is $210,000 excluding GST.
