Hort Innovation is seeking a suitably qualified, experienced and capable service provider for the project: Alternative quarantine treatment for bananas infested with Coffee Bean Weevil (BA16010).
The objectives of the services are to help Hort Innovation to develop commercially viable alternative quarantine treatments for bananas infested by Coffee Bean Weevil (CBW) by:
* Testing efficacy of alternative registered pesticide treatments that are safer and potentially less detrimental to fruit quality
* Developing efficacy data that will underpin future industry-run commercial trials
* Reporting on the work in a format and to a standard that will enable Biosecurity WA to approve an identified treatment as a quarantine protocol.
The intended outcomes include:
* Alternative quarantine treatment(s) for CBW that are commercially viable have been identified and approved by Biosecurity WA based on scientifically rigorous data
* The banana industry has undertaken commercial trials and adopted the alternative treatments
* CBW infestation in bananas is no longer a quarantine concern to Biosecurity WA through the use of the new protocol.
