Expressions of Interest (EOI) are sought from suitably qualified consultants, developers and manufacturers to participate in a renewable energy industry opportunity, supported by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA). This EOI process will shortlist companies to participate in a subsequent tender.

The successful contractor will design and implement a working Pumped Hydro Energy Storage (PHES) software cost model which will take physical attributes from a database of potential PHES sites around Australia and output physical and financial modelled characteristics of possible schemes. The completed PHES software cost model will be publicly available on the Australian National University (University) website.

Demonstrated experience in hydroelectric design, manufacturing or consulting, and existing, proven hydro prefeasibility models with excellent cost database resources for client and construction are important selection criteria. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved in renewable energy (working with experts in the field of photovoltaics and wind energy) in an energy field which will be essential to the future of large-scale renewable energy.

The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr Malcolm Turnbull, expressed support for off-river pumped hydro at a recent address to the National Press Club. ARENA supports pumped hydro and has committed to continued support for storage and other flexible capacity projects.
