Tender Description
RFS RFT 2016-028 - The NSW Rural Fire Service (NSW RFS) plays a key coordinating and strategic role in the overall planning and management of fire prevention, protection and suppression in NSW. The NSW RFS is the lead combat agency for bush fires in NSW and also provides resources and support to other emergency service organisations. The Commissioner of the NSW RFS has ultimate responsibility for bush fire suppression across the State.
The NSW RFS is the world’s largest volunteer-based fire service. Volunteers fulfil the incident response role of the NSW RFS with over 2,000 rural fire brigades and more than 73,000 volunteer members protecting rural areas, villages, small towns and some outer urban fringes across the State.
Where possible, sustenance on the fireground or at an incident should be provided through freshly-cooked or freshly-prepared meal options. However, there will be occasions when fresh food cannot be provided to firefighters. This is typically at the commencement of operations before catering can be established; unplanned operations or longer duration operations such as ‘Remote Area Operations’. During periods of strenuous activity supplementary between-meal snacks can provide additional energy to working muscles.
The provision of sustenance to firefighters needs to be tailored to the workload and duration of the operation with due care to labelling to allow the consumers to make informed decisions on consumption.
An expected outcome of this process is identify a supplier or suppliers who can meet the demands of the NSW Rural Fire Service for the provision of:
* Snack pack for in between substantial meals consisting of high energy snacks providing Min. 6000KJ
* Single shift meal and snack pack consisting of one substantial meal and high energy snacks providing Min. 7000KJ
* 24 hour multi-meal and snack pack consisting of two substantial meals and high energy snacks (typically a 24 hour meal solution) providing Min. 12,000KJ
It is expected this Request for Quote process will be completed and implemented by 22 August 2017.
