Storey Park Cafe

Council is testing the market interest in leasing and operating a proposed new cafe which may be part of a larger community facility in Hornsby.

All the hard work has been done by specialist consultants in order to provide the best opportunity for this cafe to succeed. Now all we need is for you to oil your hipster beard, don your leather apron and brew some single origin, soy piccolos for those that appreciate really, really good coffee.

In conjunction with architects MODE Design, Council engaged the professional services of Brain & Poulter to inform the design of a potential cafe space to provide the optimum opportunity for the prospective tenant to maximise utilisation and activation of the business. Brain & Poulter undertook a Food and Beverage Feasibly Study of the site, taking into account the current and future demands of the surrounding neighbourhood which has a projected population increase of 50% by 2021.

Council is committed to activating the site and providing a range of social and cultural benefits to the local residents and users of the precinct. The proposed cafe space would be built within the community centre offering a mix of indoor and outdoor dining spaces, overlooking the adjacent oval and playground and is designed to cater for the general public as well as hirers within the community centre, including the 120 seat function space.

Council understands that hipsters are a unique breed and you may have an alternative vision that is a little bit outside the box. Cool, we are open to unorthodox suggestions, ideas and concepts. All options will be considered bearded burger bars, social enterprise developments, wood fired pizza pop ups.

This is a unique opportunity for the right food and beverage provider to get in early and work with Council to kick start the urban renewal process in the area.

Background
Council is building a new multi-functional community centre and playground at Storey Park, 10x Old Berowra Road Hornsby. The development application (DA) has been lodged and construction is expected to commence in 2017. Attached are the relevant background documentation and studies to help inform submissions.

You can view the full DA package DA/1097/2016 which does not include the cafe component. In the submission, respondents are invited to include details regarding capital contribution to invest in the infrastructure required to deliver on this vision.
