Council is establishing a panel for preferred contractors for concrete slab works. Council uses preferred contractor lists for a number of services. A preferred contractors list provides conformity with the Local Government Procurement requirements, provides transparency and a convenient way to obtain future quotations for projects of various sizes.

After the preferred contractor panel is established the first request for quotation will be for the construction of concrete causeways on gravel roads.

Council has allocated funds to improve access along critical routes that are currently unsealed. Council's road consultative group has identified the need to create concrete causeway to allow roads to be opened up sooner after large rain events. Additionally and potentially for smaller rain events, the capability to not close the road, due to the ability of the impervious surface to sustain the rain event.

The location of the causeways to be upgraded will be based on empirically evidence from multiple factors, including; frequency and duration of past closures, traffic counts, road hierarchy and total number of upstream customers.

Council requires causeways to be 8m wide to ensure that restricted access vehicles will not be limited in their future approvals to access these roads. The length of the causeway is variable depending on the width of the waterways. The exact locations will be part of the quotation information and will be sourced from the asset register in consultation with the unsealed superintendent. A generic plan is attached at the end of this Volume 2 Specifications.
