KPA manages and controls the Port of Broome (Port) which includes land in close proximity to the Port. The Port is strategically placed to service growing industries in the Kimberley including:
* On-shore and off-shore oil and gas exploration and development;
* Live cattle export;
* Mineral export; and
* General cargo import and export.

The Port is a Security regulated port managed by the Kimberley Ports Authority (KPA). KPA is required to comply with the Maritime Transport and Offshore Facilities Security Act 2003 (MTOFSA) and the Customs Act 1901.

The MTOFSA was introduced to enhance the security of Australia's maritime environment against the threat of terrorism and other unlawful acts. To achieve this aim, MTOFSA includes a number of security measures including:
* Port Security Plan;
* Port Security Officer; and
* The introduction of Maritime Security Guards (MSGs).

KPA currently undertakes the Port Of Broome Security Gatehouse Operations (Operations) with KPA staff.

Respondents must inform themselves as to the industrial relations matrix which applies to the provision of security services at the Port, including consideration of the relevant awards and any enterprise agreement which they believe may apply or which would need to be developed.

KPA seeks Expressions of Interest from parties interested in carrying out the Operations for KPA.
