NSW Licensed Asbestos Assessor Inspections and Testing for Loose fill Asbestos Insulation in Residential Properties
Tender ID: 271356
Tender Details
Tender Description
Loose-fill asbestos insulation (LFAI) is raw asbestos that has been crushed into a fine state and installed in ceiling spaces. During the 1960s and 1970s, pure loose-fill asbestos was sold as ceiling insulation for residential and commercial premises. A Canberra based company known as 'Mr Fluffy' installed insulation in around 1,000 homes in the ACT and is also understood to have installed insulation into homes in NSW.
On June 2015, the NSW Government announced a Voluntary Purchase and Demolition Program (VPD) to assist NSW homeowners affected by LFAI. Part of the VPD Program is a free testing program for properties built prior to 1980 in approved local government areas. NSW homeowners who register with the Taskforce and meet these criteria are eligible to receive free testing under the VPD. The purpose of the testing program is to identify properties within NSW that contain LFAI.
The Request for Tender is for Licensed Asbestos Assessors to carry out the necessary work under the free testing program. This involves inspecting properties, carrying out sampling in the ceiling cavity, having the sample tested in a NATA approved laboratory and providing the Taskforce with a summary report.
