Bore stations 2 & 20 which form part of the backup water supply system for the Newcastle area, were to be upgraded as part of the High Voltage Upgrades Project undertaken by the Principal during 2010 to 2015. The scope of works for Bore Stations 2 and 20 included replacement of existing ground mounted substations with new pole top substations.

Shortly after installation of the new equipment the power line which feeds the sites was damaged and the equipment was not been able to be commissioned. The Principal investigated repairing the power line, but due to the swampy nature of the affected area, rectification works were estimated to be very expensive.

After further investigation, the Principal has decided to abandon the existing 33kV connection to the Masonite Road substation and connect both sites (Station 2 and 20) to the nearby 11kV Ausgrid network.

Ausgrid has approved a request for connection. This project is to connect Bore Station 2 and 20 to the Ausgrid network.
