Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital (SCGH) is one of Australia's leading teaching tertiary hospitals. The Hospital has over 600 beds incorporating a comprehensive range of clinical services including trauma, emergency and critical care, orthopaedics, general medicine, general surgery and cardiac care. It has the largest cancer treatment centre in the State and is the state's principal hospital for neurosurgery and liver transplants.
SCGH has an international reputation for ground-breaking medical research and the Department of Research supports the work of around 150 research projects per annum, including both sponsored and investigator initiated trials. There is significant translation from research to clinical care and the hospital has strong links with all major universities in WA.
It is a teaching hospital for medical graduates from the University of Western Australia and the University of Notre Dame Australia and is the employer of choice for new nursing graduates.The statistical service plays an integral role within the Department of Research providing support to researchers from the inception of a project through to completion and publication.
The statistical service provides education to staff, assists in study design and implementation, and reviews projects for scientific rigor as part of the ethical review process.
