Cairns Regional Council (Council) is inviting submissions from suitably qualified and experienced suppliers for the Provision of Dredging and Sand Nourishment for Holloways Beach.
The sand profile at various locations along Holloways Beach has reduced to below desirable levels with localised erosion across the beach frontage.
This project aims to address the issue and includes the dredging, pumping and placement of approximately 20,000m3 of sand from the mouth of Richters Creek to the Holloways Beach sand nourishment area (a distance of 2.6km).
The area includes the beach frontage in front of the existing rockwall and in the vicinity of the stinger net swimming enclosure, with consideration for a further amount of up to 5,000m3 to be dredged and placed, should this be needed.
Richters Creek which has been a source of sand for nourishment programs in the past. Development approvals are in place for the activity of dredging from the permitted area in Richters Creek and placement of sand in the area specified above.
