Design and Construction of a Replacement Structure for the Swanston Bridge

⁠⁠⁠This contract is for the design and construction of a new single lane bridge or culvert on Swanston Road where it crosses the Little Swanport River. The new bridge or culvert will replace an existing timber bridge. The existing timber bridge will be removed by the Southern Midlands Council after Practical Completion and all materials shall remain the property of the Southern Midlands Council.

The existing timber bridge is in poor condition and now has a five (5) tonne load limit on it. A bypass and culvert for heavy vehicles have been constructed upstream (refer photographs, Appendices C, Survey Drawing Appendix D & and new road and bridge alignment Appendix E).

There are only a small number of properties that are serviced by Swanston Road and the Southern Midlands Council has determined that it does not require a 100yr ARI protection from overtopping. The Council's minimum requirement is for a minimum 5yr ARI protection from overtopping, however, the Council also seek a proposal for a minimum 10yr ARI protection structures as this provides additional emergency response value.
