The WA Government is seeking expressions of interest from private insurers to provide fully underwritten home indemnity insurance (HII) in WA and the conditions upon which they would be prepared to provide it.
HII covers the risk to homeowners using a builder to build their home from incurring unforeseen additional costs resulting from the death, disappearance or insolvency of their builder.
The HII scheme in WA is currently being reformed to provide a more flexible framework to attract private insurers into this market. This could include refining the scope of defect cover and limiting the length of time that defect claims can be made.
