JCU's primary data centre facilities, two physical rooms acting as a single logical data centre, are located on the Townsville campus and in close proximity to each other. At present, there is no alternative facility to deliver business critical IT services in the event of a failure or loss of availability of data centre services on the Townsville campus. This poses significant risk to the ability of the University to continue business operations.
The ICT Disaster Recovery project is focused on implementing an initial Disaster Recovery capability in JCU's Cairns data centre, using existing technology (VMWare SRM, VSFW) on dedicated server and storage infrastructure. As with power and cooling, networking infrastructure (LAN/WAN/Firewall) from the Cairns data centre will be used to provide service for the DR facility.
There is presently no server or storage infrastructure in JCU's Cairns data centre sufficient to provide a disaster recovery capability. The purchase of this hardware is the object of this procurement activity.
