Regional Landcare Facilitator project for Riverina LLS region is to be run for the period 2015 to 2018.
The aim of the Regional Landcare Facilitator project is to: Maintain a Regional Landcare facilitator to support farmers, fishers and land managers to identify and adopt farm practices and land management practices to sustainably manage natural resources, to reduce agricultural emissions and adapt to changing climatic conditions.
The applicant is required to provide details of their strategic approach to delivering the project:
* organisation's experience and capability to deliver the project,
* potential partners and key stakeholders you would be working with,
* overall approach to the project (e.g. one facilitator vs several across the region)
* value for money and timeliness of delivery
RLF duties should include but are not limited to:
* Promoting the Landcare ethic and sustainable agriculture to farmers and land managers
* Assisting Landcare and community groups to seek funding, membership and resources for NRM activities and to build their capacity and skills
* Supporting the development, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the region’s community engagement plan or strategy
* Reporting on the state of Landcare in the region
* Participating in the Regional Landcare Facilitator network, including attending annual national and state events
* Increasing awareness of Australian Government policies and funding programs relevant to Australian Government’s Plan for a Cleaner Environment. This plan has four ‘pillars’: Clean Air, Clean Water, Clean Land and National Heritage. RLF’s will contribute to the Clean Land ‘pillar’ by delivering practical change at the local level.
* Providing feedback to the Commonwealth on emerging NRM issues in the region, relevant to sustainable agriculture practices and Landcare community needs
Funding is set by the Australian Government at $150,000 per year to cover salaries, travel, on costs, project support and reporting. Other funds for on ground projects to support the Regional Landcare Facilitator may be available through the Riverina LLS strategic partnership grants usually advertised each year. Riverina LLS will establish a project steering committee made up of key stakeholders and the Australian Government. The contracted organisation and the facilitator will be required to attend committee meetings and provide regular updates and progress reports.
Riverina LLS and the Australian Government will need to be represented on the recruitment and performance management panels set up to engage and monitor the facilitator. This project will have Australian Government reporting requirements where periodic provision of data will be required on activities and outcomes against the Riverina LLS MERI Plan targets. These targets will be incorporated into the schedules and milestones of the contract agreement.
