The City seeks a site specific, high quality artwork for Fremantle that is innovative in form or content and highlights Fremantle as a creative city.
This Public Art Commission provides a great opportunity for an artist to create an iconic artwork in a distinctively Fremantle location. The site is a powerful focal point between land and river, located on the major arterial highway, at the bottom of East Street hill and overlooking the Swan River, the port and the traffic bridges.
The artwork must consider:
* Visibility from passing vehicles on Canning Highway.
* Lighting for visibility at night.
* Engagement at pedestrian level.
* Scale, dimension and material as the area is exposed to the elements and may be vulnerable to vandalism.
The City of Fremantle will provide landscaping support if the project requires. Lighting must be included either as an integral aspect of the work or simply to highlight the artwork at night.
