West Coast Institute of Training (WCI), a State Training Provider, is located in the northern suburbs of the Perth metropolitan area. Head office and the main campus is located at Kendrew Crescent, Joondalup with satellite campuses located at McLarty Avenue and Injune Way both of Joondalup, and Harmony Avenue, Clarkson.

WCI recognises the combination of mobile computing devices and a campus wireless network provides access to network-based resources, information and computation without the dependency on physical spaces such as offices and computer labs. The resulting mobility enables opportunities for improving business productivity and contemporary approaches to learning that utilise digital technologies.

With these outcomes in mind, WCI purchased and installed a wireless network in August, 2009. The contract included five (5) years support and maintenance and was prior to the launch of the Apple iPad and the ensuing uptake and proliferation of consumer mobile devices. The design provides full coverage across the Kendrew Crescent campus utilising two (2) Cisco 4400 series wireless LAN Controllers, sixty two (62) 802.11a/g/n Access Points and associated management software. The network has since been extended to provide wireless access across the Trades North campus located at Clarkson and limited areas of the McLarty Avenue campus with an additional twenty nine (29) Access Points. The Heat Maps shown at Attachment A - C provide detail of current wireless coverage.

There is a requirement under this Request to extend wireless coverage at the McLarty Avenue campus and adding an additional small site located at Injune Way.

With the expiration of the support agreement for the existing wireless infrastructure, WCI seeks to replace and extend the wireless network with a contemporary solution that will support the wide range of new and emerging mobile computing devices and applications now available. WCI seeks to engage a company specialising in the design, installation, configuration and management of wireless networks to achieve the desired outcomes.
