The Moree Plains Shire is located in the northwest of New South Wales near the border of Queensland. Moree is 640km from Sydney and 480km from Brisbane. The Shire covers approximately 18,000skm. At the 2011 Census the Shire had a population of 13,429. The town of Moree accounts for 9,346 people.
Moree is home to a dynamic and progressive community, boasting strong agricultural industries in cotton, grain and oilseeds. It has a Mediterranean style climate, which makes it highly adaptable to alternative farming enterprises. The largest pecan nut orchard in the Southern Hemisphere is located within the Shire. Our abundance of water, particularly the bore water of the Great Artesian Basin, is a major tourist attraction and community asset.

SALE OF LAND:
Moree Plains Shire Council (Council) is seeking Expressions of Interests (EOI) from interested parties for the disposal of vacant for the development of a Crematorium Facility. Council owns suitably zoned land in the vicinity of the Moree Cemetery that would accommodate a purpose built cremation facility.
Council (the Principal) has a responsibility to achieve the best outcome for the community in relation to the disposal of this asset. In this regard, Council will be seeking the best possible return through the disposal process but will also balance the objective with additional considerations, such as the intended future use of the site by the Respondent. Council supports improving available services and facilities to the residents of the Moree Shire.
Council may also consider additional proposals that would be appropriate on land in close proximity to the Moree Cemetery.
Please note that any proposed development will be subject to a Development Application process and notification to the public, surrounding land owners and relevant authorities. Final acceptance of offers for land disposal will be subject to successful Development Approval once initial offers are considered.
