About the Adelaide Goal: The Adelaide Gaol is one of South Australia’s oldest remaining colonial public building. Opened in 1841, it was home to approximately 300,000 prisoners during its 147 years of operation, including 45 executions.
Opportunities for the site: It is an exciting time for the Adelaide Gaol given its locality on the riverbank precinct. DEWNR anticipates that the current upgrade of the area will have flow on effects for visitor numbers and is committed to positioning the site as a major tourism attraction, conference venue and event space within South Australia.
Site inspections and additional information: For additional information regarding the Adelaide Gaol please visit the Adelaide Gaol website.
Inspections of the site can be made by appointment. Please contact the Project Manager via email: DEWNR.AdelaideGaolEoI@sa.gov.au.
