Tender Description

The City of Greater Geelong is seeking tenders from experienced consultants for the preparation and development of a new Open Space Strategy across Greater Geelong.

Overview: Council adopted its Study of Open Space Networks in August 2001. It was commissioned jointly by Council and Parks Victoria and sought to map, code and analyse the city's existing open space resources, trail system and linkages with a view to identifying gaps and opportunities to strengthen the overall open space network. The study has been used over the past ten years to guide the city's planning for open space. While many of the principles of open space provision developed as part of the Study of Open Space Networks are still relevant today, the past decade has seen significant changes in many of the fields that influence open space planning.

The City of Greater Geelong is seeking a consultant to prepare a new Open Space Strategy, taking into account planned population growth, relevant principles from the 2001 Study of Open Space Networks and open space planning best practice. In addition, the new strategy will incorporate and consolidate much of the planning done to date by the other public land managers operating within the boundary of Greater Geelong.

The Greater Geelong Open Space Strategy will: Define the long-term vision for the Greater Geelong open space network.

Provide the strategic framework and supporting policy to guide the future supply, preservation and development, including acquisition, of open space over the next ten years. Formalise a land management agency (LMA) partnership model for the ongoing implementation of the strategy.

The tenderer must clearly demonstrate its expertise, capabilities and competency, based on previous experience, in similar projects and provide documented details of successful completion of such projects. The tenderer must have had significant previous experience and future capability to deliver open space planning for local government clients, experience in use of evidence / research to develop principles and support conclusions as well as consultation and stakeholder management.

The project has a budget in the range of $130,000-$150,000 (excl. GST)
